that's how Grandpa Goddard always fixed it too!
He may have used canned cranberries when he was very very old, but he taught me how to cook cranberries from scratch years before, and that was the way he liked them best. Cranberries (fresh, not out of a can) are one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving!
